The lesser known temple of Banteay Chhmar and its associated temples, are just as profound as the Angkorian complex and were even known as The Pearl of the 13th century. Take your time exploring the province and enjoy an overnight stay with a local family in the Cambodian countryside.

Program of the day

Day 1 :

7am : Depart in your private vehicle to the province of Banteay Meanchey. Discover forgotten and less-known temples in a preserved environment.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted by the host and shown around your accommodation for the evening. After dropping off your belongings, continue the momentum of the day by taking a guided tour of the Banteay Chhmar temple, The Pearl of the 13th Century.

Enjoy lunch with your host.

After lunch, jump on a Koyon (local tractor) tour of the surrounding area, before making your way back for sunset.

Listen to the soft sounds of Khmer music drift over the paddy fields as you take your dinner within the grounds of Banteay Chhmar temple.

Overnight : Sleep at your host’s home.

Day 2 :

After breakfast, you and your guide will head to explore the nearby satellite temples. 

Lunch will be served near the Baray (Angkorian reservoir).

As you make your way back to Siem Reap, visit Soieries du Mekong to see an array of exquisite silks made by local craftspeople (closed on week-ends and bank holidays)

Finally, take some well deserved rest as your driver ferries you back to Siem Reap in comfort. 

The villagers contribute to the eco-tourism activities set up by the community centre. The objective is to generate income for families and facilitate access to Khmer culture for travelers

Private Tour of Banteay Srei, Kbal Spean and Silk Preservation Center

Forgotten temples

Take a private, air conditioned vehicle to visit Banteay Srei, The Citadel of Women, which was built in reverence to the God Shiva. It is famous for having a different hue to any of the other temples and is extremely well preserved. You will also visit another monument to Shiva in Kbal Spean, the river of a thousand lingas, where each small linga has been created in dedication to the god.

Once you have finished your lunch you may visit a local silk preservation weaving center where they continue to use traditional methods to create the finest materials for special occasions. See the whole process from worm cultivation and care to weaving

8am: Depart your hotel early in the morning and head outside of Siem Reap for 20 kilometres to the temple of Banteay Srei, the Citadel of Women. Then, jump back into your private vehicle and set off to the north-east of Angkor to visit the river of a thousand lingas, Kbal Spean.

Lunch with a Deluxe packed lunch.

On the return leg of your journey, you will stop at a traditional silk farm where the charming Franco-Khmer owners can proudly present their traditional methods and beautiful materials. 

Late afternoon return to the hotel.

An Immersive Cooking Experience

Understand what it really feels like to live in a Cambodian village by learning first hand the secrets to creating some of the region’s most delicious dishes. Be a part of the family as you chop, mix, fry and prepare a meal with your hosts and later, explore your surroundings by hopping on a traditional cart drawn by buffalo.

Option 1: Half-day

8:30 am: Depart your hotel by tuk-tuk and head out of Siem Reap to your host village. Nestled between rice and lotus fields you will meet one of the most highly respected Cambodian Chefs in the region, who will lead you step by step through each dish with careful preparation. 

Enjoy the labours of your hard work and share the delicious meal with your host family.

2 p.m.: Return to your hotel.

Option 2: Full Day

After your lunch, hitch a ride on an ox drawn cart to discover local artisans.

5 pm: Return to your hotel.
