Sustainable travel: adopt good practices now!
The basis of eco-travel is to answer the following question: “How can we promote local economic development and preserve natural spaces and populations while traveling?”
The answer to this question implies a collective awareness, but more concretely the application of "eco-responsible" gestures. These actions, or practices, do not necessarily involve reducing comfort when travelling, nor are they necessarily complicated to put into practice.
Here are a few examples of eco-responsible travel practices:
Favour slow travel: Taking the train is a good alternative: it has one of the lowest environmental impacts. Better still, use a bicycle or typical public transport. Apart from the environmental impact, slow travel allows you to immerse yourself in the country, discovering its culture and landscapes and interacting with its inhabitants.
Avoid the big accommodation chains. Book directly with the hotelier or the manager of a guest house, for example. Siem Reap à la Carte has a long list of trusted partners and will book the most suitable accommodation for you.
Buy local, both for your tourist purchases and your daily food. It's all about financing the locals and introducing you to their culture. Here again, Siem Reap à la Carte - Voyage au Cambodge can recommend the best restaurants and artisans in the area.
Find out beforehand about customs, good and bad practices. Let the locals advise you. For example, never touch a child's head in South-East Asia!
Ban tourist activities involving animals (visiting a zoo, for example). In these structures, animal welfare is sacrificed for the tourist's amusement.
Don't leave any trace of your visit. Don't throw any rubbish into nature or collect any local fauna or flora wherever possible.
We are passionate about Cambodia and have a long list of qualified service providers, so we can create an eco-trip to suit you:
Sleep in a local's home and enjoy a unique experience of Cambodian life, share your meals with them and take part in the daily life of this family. Each accommodation has been visited and selected by us, chosen for its originality, quality of service, cleanliness and geographical location.
Discover Cambodia in a different way with our cycling holidays and days out (always à la carte and adaptable to your wishes, of course) that will take you as close as possible to the locals, at your own pace, for unforgettable memories!
Set off on an unforgettable trek in Mondolkiri province to discover its hilly landscapes, pine forests, waterfalls and ethnic groups who have preserved a dialect and way of life outside the Khmer culture. We have a network of local guides with whom you can talk.
Learn to cook typical Khmer dishes in the homes of local people, share lunch with your hosts and explore the surrounding area on a means of transport that is as local as it is original.
